About me
Gene Barrera is the GIS Manager at Merced County and leads initiatives in GIS collaboration, strategic planning, and community partnerships. With a background in Land Use and Environmental Planning from UC Merced, Gene brings extensive GIS experience to his role.
Gene excels in fostering partnerships around the implementation of GIS. In addition to his role as a local government advocate for the California Road Sharing Initiative (CaRS), he has contributed to key projects like the Merced County NG911 rollout, Merced County's Parcel Remapping project, and supporting the development of a GIS Strategic Plan for Merced County's Child Support Department.
Gene holds a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley and teaches an introductory GIS course at California State University, Stanislaus. He has presented at the 2020 CalGIS Conference and contributed to the NENA GIS Data Transition Work Group as well as the CalOES NG911 GIS Task Force.
